Structure preserving mesh coupling for Maxwell’s equations

چکیده
The state of the art for mesh coupling at nonconforming interfaces is presented and reviewed. Mesh coupling is frequently applied to dealing with motion in electromagnetic actuators [1, 2, 3]. The focus of the contribution is on lowest order Whitney elements. Both interpolationand projection-based methods are considered [4]. In addition to accuracy and efficiency, we emphasize the question whether the schemes preserve the structure of de Rham complex, which underlies Maxwell’s equations.

Geometric Computational Electrodynamics with Variational Integrators and Discrete Differential Forms
In this paper, we develop a structure-preserving discretization of the Lagrangian framework for electromagnetism, combining techniques from variational integrators and discrete differential forms. This leads to a general family of variational, multisymplectic numerical methods for solving Maxwell’s equations that automatically preserve key symmetries and invariants. In doing so, we demonstrate ...
متن کاملVariational Integrators for Maxwell’s Equations with Sources
In recent years, two important techniques for geometric numerical discretization have been developed. In computational electromagnetics, spatial discretization has been improved by the use of mixed finite elements and discrete differential forms. Simultaneously, the dynamical systems and mechanics communities have developed structure-preserving time integrators, notably variational integrators ...
متن کاملAn oversampling technique for the multiscale finite volume method to simulate electromagnetic responses in the frequency domain
In order to reduce the computational cost of the simulation of electromagnetic responses in geophysical settings that involve highly heterogeneous media, we develop a multiscale finite volume method with oversampling for the quasistatic Maxwell’s equations in the frequency domain. We assume a coarse mesh nested within a fine mesh that accurately discretizes the problem. For each coarse cell, we...
متن کاملFree Vibration Analysis of Functionally Graded Piezoelectric Material Beam by a Modified Mesh Free Method
A mesh-free method based on moving least squares approximation (MLS) and weak form of governing equations including two dimensional equations of motion and Maxwell’s equation is used to analyze the free vibration of functionally graded piezoelectric material (FGPM) beams. Material properties in beam are determined using a power law distribution. Essential boundary conditions are imposed by the...
متن کاملCsr Fields from Using a Direct Numerical Solution of Maxwell’s Equations∗
We discuss the properties of the coherent electromagnetic fields of a very short, ultra-relativistic bunch in a rectangular vacuum chamber inside a bending magnet. The analysis is based on the results of a direct numerical solution of Maxwell’s equations together with Newton’s equations. We use a new dispersion-free time-domain algorithm which employs a more efficient use of finite element mesh...
